Korean Food: Dong San

A few weeks ago, my friend and I visited Dong San  (동산), a Korean restaurant in London.

The interior was really pretty and the decor was arranged nicely. This thing that caught my eye was the display of plastic food at the front of the restaurant that looks almost undistinguishable from real food. They had Korean newspapers under the display so feel free to take one if you visit this restaurant.

The restaurant floor looked big in comparison to some of the other Korean restaurants I've been to so it could be an ideal place to go if you go with a large group of people.

We ordered vegetable pancake, soybean stew with rice and seafood noodle. As my friend had tried Korean food once before and enjoyed the vegetable pancake I was curious to see what she thought of the vegetable pancake from Dong San. I guess I'll have to order it at every Korean restaurant I go to now so I can compare it. Haha.


The food took a while to come but it looked appetizing.

  My friend and I both agreed that the vetegable pancake was a bit oily and it preferred the crunchier ones in Assa. Having said that, they were still delicious and we ended up finishing it all.

Kimchi

My friend loved the kimchi. It was slightly different to the kimchi I've had in the past as they were mixed with a type of chilli paste which enhanced the taste.

 Also the soybean soup was tasty too, it was a bit too salty for my liking, but I'm told that it is usually quite salty.

Seafood noodles

The seafood noodles was my favourite. It had a kick to it which I really liked. The soup actually tasted like a Bengali dish my mother cooks.

Overall, the food was quite good but the service was not really the best as there were not many staff on the restaurant floor and we had to wait a while to be served. However, friends have told me that the korean barbecued meat at Dong San is rather delicious. Maybe I should try something like that at the next Korean restaurant I go to?

Here is another Korean restaurant review, this time we went to Asadal. Firstly, Asadal is in an easy to find location. As soon as you get out of Holborn station it is on the right hand side. We tried to take a picture to shown you the front of the restaurant but as you can see, it was very busy, especially as it is location right near the tube station.

When we walked through the door, we went down some stairs to the restaurant. The first thing we noticed was the interior and it looked really fancy, as well as spacious. We were in a small room, which was really cosy, you can see the picture below.

As we went during lunch time, we got a lunch time menu. There was not much we could order, especially as we're vegetarian. So we order ddeokbboki, seafood noodles and prawn fried rice. 

 
The overall review about Asadal was, it is located in a good location which is very easy to find, the interior of the restaurant is very nice and spacious although the menu did not have that much to offer for us vegetarians, but the food was tasty. Also, the service is good and the waiters are very polite. So our first experience of Asadal was a good one.

So if you are looking for a Korean restaurant to dine at, why not try this one?

Contrary to its name, it actually sells savoury food, which was a little disappointing. I was actually looking forward to trying steamed bun with red bean paste, you know the ones you see on Korean dramas, but that didn't go as planned. But the food was amazing

We went here with my two Korean friends and the interior was really unique (unfortunately I completely forgot to take a picture inside). Customers write comments on the wall which make the restaurant feel really homey.

We orders vegetable kimbap and kimchi fried rice with tuna while our friends had bolgogi. I must say the food was scrumptious and they gave so much kimbap that it was hard to actually finish it.

Overall another terrific Korean restaurant. Bear in mind that SHINee actually dined in this restaurant which gives it a shrine-like feel now. Have I persuaded you enough to visit it? SHINee did leave a message too which is up on the wall someone. Check it out~!

We visit Korean restaurant so often that we might as well learn to cook all these dishes. Haha.
